0545-54F/48F. Got up early, prior to sunrise!  I guess it was in anticipation of the hiking and flying activity planned for today, finally!  The weather the last couple days has kept the drone on the ground!

Made coffee and coffee cake.  While baking the cake, I put up the solar panel to charge the battery. Coffee cake was excellent as usual.  A staple for my morning treat with coffee.

0801-70F/46F. Sun is up, solar is charging. Some cloud scud around. A light breeze. Wish it were less. It was supposed to be clear, but it isn't yet! We'll see? Solar battery is at 77%, charging slowly, still some clouds blocking the sun!

0833-Time for early breakfast. 68F/47F.

0907-Blueberry pancakes with sausages and OJ. 73F/53F.  Will go fly the pre-programmed Litchi mission form the campfire area first thing.

1022-Litchi mission failed. I kept getting "altitude" as the problem. I tried to adjust the program so that no altitude on the mission was over 400 ft., but to no avail!  I think it may be looking at the height above the takeoff point? So if I'm on the mountain it should work?  We'll see?

Tried manual flight but lost signal pretty quick with the rocky terrain and tree cover. Not very successful recharging the batteries in a timely fashion either.  Will try the Ferguson Trail next.

69F/60F. Breezy! Froze my hands trying to fly so I went to retrieve my wool gloves.  The breeze really cools off the hands when trying to work the controller.

1100-Departed the house boat in the kayak with my backpack filled with drone gear.  Heading for the place the small creek enters the lake.  Trailhead should begin there.

Checked out the trail to the falls too, but the falls were dry at this time of year. Very small lake feeding the stream with low water level. The falls were a bust, but the hike enjoyable. I think I saw a fisher feeding along the stream bed.

I headed further up the trail to the Ferguson Overlook and did pass a sign along the way indicating a trail to/from my boat site intersecting the Ferguson Trail. I walked toward my boat site for a short distance to test the trail a bit, and it seemed fine.  However, I could not find the trail at the boat site when I looked for it.

The Ferguson Trail was generally good but rugged at points and I got lost on a couple turns, so you have to watch the trail closely to discern which way to turn.

Obstacle Along Ferguson Trail

There is actually two overlooks, one about two thirds of the way up overlooks the two boat sites (see pic below).

The overlook was great and I flew quite a few missions using the DJI Go 4 app with the Mavic 2 Zoom.  I was getting constant wind warnings because the wind was brisk, likely 25 mph, or so, but the drone seemed to tolerate it anyway, even with floats on.

1700-Returned from the hike and kayak trip. The drone flying was partially successful, but it was still no go with the Litchi mission. Litchi really needs to do some work on that software and make problems more clear so you can correct them.  Just stating you have an "altitude" problem is not enough!

1823-Finished dinner.  Grilled burger, chips, potato salad, and a couple cold beers. I'm really bushed, but I will do dishes, take a shower, and charge all systems for tomorrow.  68F/62F.

1852-Dishes are done.  Wasted some water because I failed to rinse out the French press after morning coffee and filled the clean water with the coffee grounds!  I am also short of fresh water!  I don't remember if I took 3 or 4 jugs last year, but I will have to step up conservation of my remaining supply! 69F/61F.

1938-68F/57F. Sunset. Checked weather on the VHF.  Cloudy tomorrow, rain near noon. Breezy SE winds!  Sounds like a repeat!

2035-Came in from the fire ring. Wasn't going to use the fire ring, since I was so tired.  However, the wind went calm and the evening turned pleasant.  With all the bad weather lately I thought I should take advantage, so I sat outside by the fire and had my evening libation with chocolates.

Had a shower earlier, which felt good, but the air was cool at 57F, with a breeze! Now 69F/49F. Will read and hit the sack!  I should sleep well!
